Newfoundland politician pushing new bill to study seal populations

 

“Bill C-251 was introduced by Clifford Small in a private members’ motion on Feb. 9. It’s now in its second stage of reading. The bill also calls on Canada to study how other countries manage and maintain their pinniped populations.

 

However, with a minority government situation in the House, there’s no guarantee the government won’t fall before this bill comes back to Parliament for a final vote.

 

Even if it doesn’t make it into legislation, Small says at the very least the debates around it have increased the conversation about pinniped populations and their impact on the marine ecosystem.”
