Grade Quality Guide

Grade 1

  • Perfect skin
  • No scratches.
  • Even symmetrical cut.
  • Maximum length.

Grade II

  • Slightly imperfect.
  • Small hole.
  • Noticeable shortage due to lack of tail or flipper holes

Grade III

  • Holes.
  • Scratched fur.
  • Skin is incomplete or asymmetrical.
  • Flipper holes too large or uneven.
  • Skin is nicked.

Grade I

  • No holes below the upper shoulder line.
  • No more than 2 holes in the neck area.
  • Pelting is uniform and straight cut down the belly.
  • Flipper holes are uniform and as small as possible – i.e. skinned to the paw.
  • No hair side defect showing in the hair

Grade II

Skin as in condition # 1 + not more than one of the following:

  • One hole smaller than 1cm/0.4” in the main body.
  • Not more than two very small holes (less than 3mm/0.1”) in the main body at or below
    the shoulder line.
  • A hair side defect less than 2.5cm/1″ long anywhere below the shoulder line.
  • Pelting off centre – greater than 1.25cm/ 0.5” off centre line.
  • Over sized flipper holes (less than 2.5cm/ 1” sleeve on grading table).
  • Only one (1) flipper hole intact.

Grade III

Same condition as # 1, with two of the following conditions:

  • One hole smaller than 1cm/0.4” in the main body
  • Not more than two very small holes (less than 3mm/0.1”) in the main body at or below
    the shoulder line.
  • A hair side defect less than 2.5cm/1″ long anywhere below the shoulder line.
  • Pelting off center – greater than 1.25cm/ 0.5” off center line.
  • Over sized flipper holes (less than 2.5cm/ 1” sleeve on grading table)
  • Only one (1) flipper hole intact.

 

Or one of the following:

  • Not more than three small holes (less than 3mm/0.1”) below upper shoulder line.
  • Not more than two holes below upper shoulder line, one hole 1.5cm/0.6” and the other
    2.5cm/1”.
  • Two hair side defects less than 2.5cm / 1” inch long below the upper shoulder line.
  • One hair side defect greater than 2.5cm/1” and less than 5cm/2” below upper shoulder
    line.

Grade III

Color A

  • Fully natural.
  • Completely clean.
  • No yellowing on pelt.

Color B

  • Clean.
  • Near natural.
  • Light yellow cast or hue.
  • Slight yellowing on the pelt in 1 or more locations.

Color C

  • Distinct overall yellow.
  • Yellow staining in one or more locations.

Definitions

Shoulder : 12cm/4.75 inch band above the flipper holes (base on hand’s width).

Neck: 12cm/4.75 inch band above shoulder band.

Sleeve: Band of skin surrounding flipper, past edge of armpit.

Hair side defect:  Knife mark, scar, scratch, bite mark or hole.
