Carved and printed seal pelts

When it comes to working with seal fur and leather, the only limit is your creativity! Even before a single cut or stitch is made, many options are available for altering the seal pelt to make your vision a reality.

You can choose a natural pelt, with its distinctive patterning—or select one that has been dyed just about any colour you’d like. You might want the smaller, fluffier, less vibrantly marked beater pelt, or a larger, more dramatic pelt from an older seal. You may want the fur length left as-is, or shear it shorter, for a different look entirely.

And if you’re looking for something truly unique, consider pelt carving or printing.

Carving is when custom designs or patterns are cut directly into the fur or leather. Carved areas contrast with areas of longer fur, giving a 3-dimensional effect. This could result in simple stripes or other repeated texture and look, done at the processing facility. Designers may also work directly with the material to creative their own complex and varied designs.

Seal fur can also be printed. This differs from an all-over colour dye in that the pelt is dyed precisely to give elaborate or simple patterns—python and zebra prints, for example—or images.
