Doug Chiasson
Executive Director of the Fur Institute of Canada
Originally from Cape Breton Island, Doug Chiasson is the Executive Director of the Fur Institute of Canada and the Seals & Sealing Network (SSN) home of Canadian Seals Products. A seasoned veteran in his field, Doug holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Political Science and Communications from the University of Ottawa.
Working in Canadian public and non-profit sectors, Doug brings over ten years of experience in marine resource management and environmental sustainability at the provincial, territorial, national, and international levels. Before joining FIC, he led WWF-Canada’s Arctic fisheries program, advised the Premier of Manitoba on sustainable development, and was a senior advisor to the federal Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.
In his current capacity, Doug oversees all activities of the Institute, with a particular focus on Canadian Seal Products (CSP). A strategist and leader with laser focus on goals and rallying his team, his expertise in media relations, policy analysis, and government relations has been instrumental in significantly raising the profile of CSP, advocating for sustainable practices, and fostering positive relationships with various stakeholders.
A founding member and current Vice-President of the Nova Scotia Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society, and Co-Chair of the Green Budget Coalition, Doug frequently contributes blog posts on TruthAboutFur.com.
Doug and his family currently reside in Nova Scotia where he is an avid fly fisher, hunter, and reader outside his professional commitments. He actively contributes to his community as a church member and supports several organizations, including the Atlantic Salmon Federation and the Margaree Salmon Association.
