Diane Giroux

Member of the Seal Fur Subcommittee

Design Program, Arctic College

 

Diane is a fashion designer and the Senior Instructor for the Fur Production and Design Program at Nunavut Arctic College in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She also holds diplomas in International Business and in Fashion Design.

 

Diane worked in the fashion industry for 15 years as a freelance designer and owned a manufacturing company of outerwear, sportwear and activewear. She moved to China in 1999 as coordinator, public relations agent, and instructor for the fashion program at Donghua University, Shanghai. Diane also managed the international trade department of a fur garments and accessories’ wholesaler operating in Montreal and mainland China.

 

Diane has been working with Inuit women since 2002, leading workshops, and managing a sewing center in Arviat. In 2005, Diane met with seamstresses and customers across the Canadian north and wrote a comprehensive needs assessment for a fur design and production program in Nunavut. Nunavut Arctic College took the lead in 2007 and this program has been delivered across the territory since 2009.

 

Diane currently lives and works in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
