“A recent study published in BMJ Open found that most adults and children have low serum levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Pharmavite conducted the cross-sectional study, analyzing U.S. population data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2012 to determine serum long-chain omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)”.

“Results showed that 95.5% of children and 68.35% of adults age 20 and older had long-chain omega-3 concentrations below 2.49%, corresponding to an intake of omega-3s recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA). The majority of adults (97%) had DHA concentrations below 2.85%, which is associated with a lower risk of atrial fibrillation. Among adults, 88.7% of the population had an Omega-3 Index in the high cardiovascular risk category, 10.4% of adults were in the intermediate risk category, and just 1% of adults were in the low-risk category”.

Omega-3 Deficiency Symptoms

Omega-3s build cell walls and they are essential parts of the diet and supplements, which are associated with numerous health benefits. When the level of Omega -3 in the blood is too low, people will experience dry skin, weak hair, and fragile nails that can easily peel and crack. Omega-3 deficiency also causes red rashes on the skin, dandruff, fatigue, and insomnia.

How to take enough amount of omega-3s?

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in foods, such as fish and flaxseed, and in dietary supplements, such as seal oil and fish oil. Omega-3 supplements can improve the overall level of omega-3s in blood and help to maintain healthy conditions.

Seal oil omega 3s are better Omega-3 sources than fish oil, since seals are mammals, the fatty acids found in seal oil are identical in structure to those in humans. It means faster, better Omega -3s digestion and absorption by the human body. In opposite, fish oil structure is unrecognized by the human system, resulting in a longer digestion time and overall poorer absorption.

Seal oil contains DPA, which is one of three important types of Omega -3. DPA increases the levels of all key omega-3’s (EPA, DHA, and DPA), therefore boosting Omega-3 levels in the body. Natural sources of DPA are rare. DPA only naturally exists in human breast milk and seal oil. Containing DPA is one of the reasons why seal oil is an excellent supplement for enhancing Omega-3s levels in the blood.
